Setting Out Engineer - London  

To £85,000 DOE + Package    

We are partnered with a leading contractor involved in key sectors including Civil Infrastructure, Transport, Commercial, Residential, Retail, Industrial, Fit Out, Data Centre, and Pharmaceutical. Due to continued growth, the organisation is in need of an experienced and highly skilled Setting Out Engineer for technology projects. With advanced surveying skills, Setting Out Engineer is responsible for providing precise measurements and technical expertise to ensure the accurate positioning of structures and components throughout the project.   

Key Responsibilities & Requirements:    

• Perform detailed surveying and setting out for the placement of foundations, structural elements, utilities, and electrical and mechanical services, ensuring accuracy within tight tolerances specific to technology/data centre builds.  

• Ensure setting out information is conveyed accurately to the workforce and correctly implemented.  

• Knowledgeable in using surveying equipment to measure and set out reference points, lines, and levels.  

• Work closely with clients, subcontractors, project managers and quantity surveyors to ensure seamless communication and alignment between design intent and site execution, particularly regarding mission-critical aspects of the build. 

• Prepare and maintain accurate records/reports of measurements and set out data for reference and quality assurance.  

• Verify the accuracy of the setting out work throughout the construction phases and identify and resolve any setting out issues.  

• Adhere to all health and safety regulations ensuring that all setting out activities are conducted safely and responsibly.  

• Maintain comprehensive records of all setting out activities, providing detailed reports on progress to senior management.  

• Ensure all surveying and setting out equipment are regularly calibrated and maintained for accurate performance.  

• Producing comprehensive CAD designs and technical drawings for clients and asset owners.  

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.  

• Proven years of experience as a setting out engineer within construction, preferably in technology, data centre, and heavy utility projects.  

• Advanced knowledge of surveying techniques and setting out equipment, such as total stations, and expertise in interpreting complex technical drawings.  

• Professional certifications or qualifications in surveying or setting out such as CSCS, SMSTS are desirable.  

• High level of precision in setting out points, levels, and dimensions with the ability to quickly resolve any issues related to setting out issues or design conflicts.  

• Effective communication skills, with the ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and ensure accurate translation of design intent into site operations.
